PACKAGE TOURS

You are invited to go fishing with an old-school fisherman, experience wild nature and learn how to prepare and cook local delicacies such as, fresh fish & reindeer with “a la carte” chefs of Hotel Aldan. After exciting days on the sea and at the remote nature reserve at the mouth of the fjord you can relax in our heritage hotel and our mountain lodge at Skálanes.

SPRING EXCURSION

A 3 day tour of comfort, regional cuisine and engaging activities.

Season: Beginning of March to the end of April; Monday afternoon to Thursday morning 

Price: 137.500 ISK per person in double/twin room and 149.050 ISK per person in single room. 

Included: Hotel accommodation, full board including with wild catch, guidance, local transport, airport pick up & drop off, and all listed activities.

Tour program 

Arrival day – Monday 

Check-in 

Dinner and introduction in Skaftfell Art Bistro at 19:00. Our waiter will mix aperitifs and walk us through  the basic steps in drink making. After dinner you we will be introduced to the cultural centre in town and do a short walked tour around the town of Seyðisfjörður, which has a lot of creative spaces, interesting architecture and history all fused together.

2nd day – Tuesday 

Breakfast served at Hotel Aldan at 10 AM and a lunch box prepared. After breakfast we will go sea angling with the authentic a highly experienced local fisherman Haraldur Árnason that knows the fjord and surroundings as only a native could. Some good fishing spots will be visited and a view of the 640m high cliffs at the bay. A typical catch can be cod, catfish or haddock. Some other fish species can also be found. Depending on season we could be lucky to see seals or even whales in the calm fjord. Haraldur will teach us to catch the fish and process it. 

After fishing tour the schedule is open until afternoon refreshment at Hotel Aldan 4 PM. After the refreshments we will prepare and cook with our chef a 3 course dinner using the fish caught or picked during the tour. We will learn the main elements of the seafood cuisine and the fresh catch will be prepared. Recipes will be provided. After sorbet or ice cream making guests decide the time of dinner and take a break before meeting up again in the restaurant for a 3 course gourmet dinner with wild game starter, catch of the day with wild mushrooms as desert a berry deserts. 

After dinner we will visit the local pub in town and taste their local beer “El Grillo”

3rd day – Wednesday 

After breakfast in Hotel Aldan we will together with Aldan’s chef prepare and make a starter out of wild game and marinate reindeer meat for the evening dinner. After the kitchen session we will be picked up  and driven to Skálanes nature resort in the south of Seyðisfjörður for a 2 hour easy walk on snow shoes trying to find the local herd of reindeers and hopefully see seals basking on the beach, a hot cocoa on a  birch log fire on hill with an optional spicing up with some Stroh rum and generally enjoy a day of  immersion in nature. Late

Lunch will be served at Skálanes. 

After the day in Skálanes and surroundings we´ll enjoy the evening at the Mountain lodge at Skalanes  with afternoon refreshment. The fireplace sauna and outdoor hot tub will be open for those who want to relax under a starry sky or in other cases any sample of Icelandic weather. The guests can also wander around to the big bird cliff nearby or simply take a nap. 

Overnight stay at Skalanes 

Departure day – Thursday 

Breakfast at Skalanes and recipes handed out. Transit for those who fly domestically.

After the kitchen session we will be picked up and driven  to Skálanes nature resort in the south of Seyðisfjörður. There depending on the season we can pick berries and wild herbs, collect eggs from their free range chickens, cook seaweed, spot wild reindeers, see seals basking on the beach, meet the local pigs and generally enjoy a day of immersion in nature. Lunch will be served at Skálanes. 

After the day in Skálanes and surroundings we meet at the Mountain lodge at Skálanes for afternoon refreshment. After that we will gather in the kitchen where we will rinse, process and learn how to use the  gathered treats. Reindeer meat, side dishes and desert will be prepared and made with the chef using some of the wild materials. Recipes will be provided. Sauna and outdoor hot tub will be open for those who want. Others can wander around to the big bird cliff of Skálanes or rest by the fireplace in their living room.
