Dúlluhús - apartments by Aldan

Dúlluhús; built in 1883, was originally build as the school for the fast-growing municipality; Seyðisfjörður. More than a century later, it was the home of Dúlla, a wonderful and important woman for the society of Seyðisfjörður.

Apart of the main function of education the youth of Seyðisfjörður town, it also housed the regional library of East/North Iceland, a bookstore and the town-hall, where the official municipality meetings were held around the turn of the 19th century.

Even though the town-hall must have been very small, the Copenhagen based newspaper; Locomotive, described it “the town-hall, which no traveller visiting Seyðisfjörður should miss”. During the first years of the school, the principal offered some of Iceland’s first classical music teaching – making a small violin orchestra.

Situated in the old town centre, Dúlluhús houses 2 apartments for up 6 persons each. Each with two bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom with washing facilities and living room with sofa beds.
